Rupert Giles is a very private man whose beliefs are reinforced through his own youthful experiences and the established rules for the Watchers (Si). He is so comfortable with his library full of dusty books that he sees no real need to embrace modern ideas or learn how to use a computer. Giles has a good memory for facts he has read, but likes to do as much research as possible before forming a plan of action (Si-Te). He is able to remain impartial when it comes to making decisions, and is driven toward forming plans rather than improvising in the moment (Te).
He cares deeply for Buffy and is able to articulate his emotional opinions very well, when pressed to do so (Fi). Giles will occasionally fight the establishment when they ask him to violate his personal beliefs or moral code; now and again, he enters an emotional state where he withholds forgiveness based in his own personal feelings and prior hurts (refusing to have anything to do with Angel after Jenny’s death, and even intending to kill him, with no regard for Buffy’s emotions). Giles can sense when something is wrong with Buffy, or she’s hiding the truth from him, but isn’t comfortable with embracing new ideas (inferior Ne).
